Frequently asked questions
Ceremonial Grade is Cacao from an heirloom bean, often a Criollo variety, sourced directly from a single origin or small area of a Country and harvested by Indigenous Communities from their own ancient 'gardens' where it just grows wild as it has for thousands of years.
It's Cacao that is untampered with by genetic modification and grows in a balanced ecosystem alongside other Rainforest plants.
A symbiotic relationship between plant and people is essential.
When it's wild it holds the intention of the Planet / Gaia to be grown instead of Cacao which is farmed intensively for large corporations.
The recommended amount for ceremony is 42g per serving however starting with a smaller amount is a good idea - around 20-25g makes a lovely thick, warm nourishing drink. High doses (50g and over) can induce nausea and possibly headaches - you'll know when you've had too much!
Cacao is a vasodilator, which opens the blood vessels of the Heart and contains Theobromine which is a stimulant similar to Caffeine.
The best advice is to tune in to the Cacao simply by holding a piece and asking the question - is it in my highest and best good to ingest this Cacao?
If the answer isn't clear it may be easier to use a simple muscle test.
Cacao works with your consciousness so it's not a good idea to work against or fight with any medication however she is also a very gentle plant medicine.
When taking anti-depressants it indicates that there may be difficulty dealing with emotions or strong energies. It’s important to feel ready to deal with emotional processing and a shift in consciousness.
Ultimately the responsibility has to fall with the participant and whether they feel ready, willing and able to have the experience.
It really is a very personal journey for everyone and Cacao seems to give you what you need when you need it, which is not necessarily what you want!
A smaller amount would be good. Perhaps as a longer drink with plant milk, more like a hot chocolate.
It's always recommend that you ‘check in’ and ask yourself if it is appropriate before consuming anything.
Other considerations would be how sensitive to Cacao / chocolate you are, how many weeks the pregnancy is and
if you have tried ceremonial Cacao previously.
As the Cacao is untempered the effect is known as "bloom"- it's where the fat crystals migrate to the surface.
This doesn't affect the potency in any way.
Cacao, like many natural foods such as coffee, wine and even coconuts, are subject to change in taste, colour, texture and sweetness according to the season in which they're grown.
It is the same pure Cacao simply ground for ease of use.
There is no difference in strength and the shelf life is the same when stored in an airtight container.
